Final Front Cover And Second Page Local Newspaper

Here are my final front cover and second page of my local newspaper. From my feedback I am very pleased with how they have both turned out. I think I have used the conventions from local newspapers and a mix of tabloid and broadsheet newspapers well. Before beginning my newspaper in the planning and research stage, I decided I wanted to make my newspaper with mainly the elements of tabloid newspaper yet include some of the conventions of broadsheet, which I believe I have accomplished with the amount of text  I have written,  as in tabloid newspapers they normally consist of more images than text. I think when looking at the newspaper you can tell the newspaper is aimed towards a younger audience rather than the typical target audience of local newspapers which is adults and elderly people.

Editing And Final Radio Advertisement

I had recorded my radio advertisement using LogicPro, yet unfortunately the recording was deleted and I was unable to rerecord using this software as it was unavailable.

Instead I used a zoom recorder to record the voices, and Freesound.org to download the sound effects. I then added these to the Adobe Audition software to edit and put everything together.

Adobe Audition screen shot of editing my radio ad.

Here is my final radio advertisement which I uploaded on soundcloud:

I am over all happy with my radio advertisement, I have had some feedback from my target audience and my teachers and I seemed to have a positive feedback from them.

Creating My Final Poster

I am happy with how my final poster has turned out, from my last post I have added a twitter and smartphone app which would appeal to my target audience. I think from my research into billboard posters, this definetly gives the impression of being a billboard poster, I think its eye catching yet simple at the same time.

Getting Feedback From My Local Newspaper

I created a questionnaire using word asking the following questions:

Name: Amirah Dunwell Age: 17

1. By glancing at the front cover, would you read this local newspaper?
Yes, the colours and fonts attract my attention.
2. Who do you think its aimed at?
16+
3. Do you think young people would read it?
Yes, the articles about gangs and TOWIE are ones I ones I would read about.
4. What don’t you like about it?
I don't like Keith Lemmon, this is off putting.
5. What do you like about it?
The colour scheme, that the articles are aimed at me, they look interesting.
6. Do you think it’s a reasonable price?
50p is a brilliant price, although I'd prefer to read it for free online.
7. Do you think it looks professional?
Yes.
8. What changes would you make?
Make the article font bigger.

Name: Katie Wyman Age: 18

1. By glancing at the front cover, would you read this local newspaper?
Potentially, I do not regularly read papers, but this catches my eye.
2. Who do you think its aimed at?
A specific neighbourhood or area. Also remind me of papers specific to a small town.
3. Do you think young people would read it?
No, I would imagine them reading something inline, or possible following the twitter.
4. What don’t you like about it?
I have no real interest about the HA6 area, I think the advertisements could have been better resolution. The title font does not appeal to me but that doesn't mean its a ad font, the articles look compressed.
5. What do you like about it?
The photos chosen are clear and attention grabbing, advertisements seem appropriate. I especially like the links to twitter and the app (how images are at an angle). Headlines are clear and to the point.
6. Do you think it’s a reasonable price?
It seems reasonable, but I cant say I would pay the price, depends how thick the paper is (and would news become old after a month?)
7. Do you think it looks professional?
Yes, it reminds me of papers I have seen in  passing.
8. What changes would you make?
Use one font type the whole way through )and colour variation to gain attention), page numbers, thin article collumns, higher resolution for adverts.

Overall I am happy and satisfied with my feedback, it is clear that my problem is the masthead font and text font which did not appeal to everyone. I think I could experiment more and look at other fonts I could use which would perhaps appeal more towards my target audience. Everyone seems to think the newspaper looks professional and it would appeal to them which I am very happy about.

Idea For Newspaper Poster

I took a picture of a friend of mine doing this certain pose as I thought this would be suitable for the local newspaper poster.

I began by taking this image using my DSLR camera with a fish eye lens.

I then edited the image using Photoshop to create a completely white background and to remove the original text from his jumper and from his arm.

I created this image also using Photoshop.  I think this image would go well on a billboard poster.

Local Newspaper Poster Ideas

I have created another poster using Indesign and Photoshop. I edited the image using Photoshop to create a white background for the image.

Therefore I tried to incorporate these conventions when creating my poster

So far this has been my favourite poster I have made. I like the fact it imposes a question to the audience, and also includes some topics which are included in the newspaper. I also like how it clearly says who the newspaper is aimed at, young people from the Harrow and Eastcote area. I feel I need to edit how the name of the newspaper "HA SIX" is shown as I don't feel this clearly states this is the name of the newspaper. Instead I will take more images so there is a larger variety of images I can choose from to use for my poster.

Researching Posters

Here are some typical Newspaper posters:

From researching newspaper posters, I have found most of them are quite simple and boring. I wish to create  my local newspaper poster to be much more eye catching than the typical newspaper posters.

As my task is too create a billboard poster to advertise my newspaper. I have began researching billboard posters and found that the ones that seemed to stand out the most where the ones which were quite brief, using large bold text of a question or simply saying what the product there trying to promote is, and a image on the side.

For example:

All these advertisements are striking and give a clear message of what the product that is being advertised is. They all have a large main image against a simple white background which I find is very eye catching. As my task is to create a billboard poster, I believe it is important to give a clear and simple, yet eye catching poster, so viewers will instantly get the message the poster is trying to give. I believe this idea is a good strategy when creating my poster.
