Today I began to record my radio advertisement in the recording studio at my college. One of my teachers helped me use the "LogicPro" software as I had never used it before.
We began by listening to the sound effects which I would like to add to the radio advertisement to make it seem more interesting and exciting. I then began to record my lines, I repeated each line three times so we were able to choose which one sounded best rather only recording it once. Once we chose this we added the other sound effects into the recording. My class mate Gabriel helped me by recording his voice for the other person in the conversation, we did the same method of recording the lines three times using different tones to see which one worked best. The next stage is to neaten up all the recordings to make it sound as exciting and proffesional as possible.

Editing Articles For My Newspaper
After reading though my articles for my local newspaper, I felt I could add some humour and more exctiement to them. Here are the before and after articles for my second page:
winner, will be visting the town hall next month to sing for the patients of Mount Vernon hospital and speak to the patients individually. The hospital was extatic to here the news of the star coming as it was a complete suprise. James chose the Mount Vernon hospital in paticular to visit, as he discovered how involved the hospital are in helping patients with
Parkinsons disease, which is something he finds very close to his heart. Read Page7 to find out more.

alternative and different from the other clubs in the area. Read Page 14 to read more.

X-Factor winner James Arthur is to visit Mt. Vernon Hospital
next month. He will be performing his latest single as well as meeting patients
in the Parkinson ward. The hospital was ecstatic to hear the news of the star
coming as it came as a complete surprise. James has a strong interest in
Parkinson disease and had heard of the great work that Mt. Vernon had been
doing. ‘To find a hospital with such dedication to this awful disease is
inspiring’ the crooner said.
Rumours that a new nightclub, Reflex, is applying for a
licence from the council have been confirmed. The license is expected to be
granted in the next couple of weeks. Enthusiastic Owners Zerminay Shah and
Robbie Judkins said “its bangra meets metal, its hip hop meets dub step. We
want to offer everything!’ Located in the newly developed ‘carb strip’ Reflex
is to have a complete make over if licensing is granted. ‘We want a place that
young people can call their own’ says owners Shah and Judkins. Find out what
the club will look like.
Harrow youth has announced its new annual carnival after
fighting the council for some time since the awful events of 2008 when the
annual shindig was stopped. Team Captain Gabriel Tomatoes is looking for
volunteers that can help out from the 25th to th 28th.
‘We need as many volunteers as possible so that we can create the same
atmosphere as the Olympics. That’s my goal’ said the emphatic organiser. See
inside for full details of what you can do.
A new Chinese restaurant and buffet Tao Peking has been
opened on the corner of Eastcote high street on Leighton Avenue. Its offering
of Sichuan as well as Indo-Chinese
fare (curries to you an me) is sure to appeal to the cosmopolitan Eastcote
dweller. Their lunchtime all you can eat special is only £5 and already seems
to be pulling in the hungry harrovians. Read P.

Creating A Poster For My Local Newspaper
I am using Photoshop to create my poster. I uploaded the picture and then downloaded a font which I thought seemed tattoo like and typed it onto her knuckles.
I felt the pink background of the image did not suit the newspaper colours. I changed it to a red background and then added green text, therefore my audience will be able to associate the colours of my newspaper with the colours of the poster.

Process Of Creating My Newspaper
After printing my newspaper to see how it would look on A3, I noticed many changes I need to make. Such as certain areas having to much space which should be filled with text or pictures. Another change I needed to make was the size of the font which was far to big when I printed it, the original size was 12 which I have now put down to 8, therefore I needed to add more text to fill the articles. I have also changed the font for the masthead, font for sub-articles on the second page.
I am so far pleased with my front cover and second page of the local newspaper, I think it would be something which would appeal to teenagers and young people. I am going to do a survey for young people to ask them whether they like my newspaper and most importantly, whether it would appeal to them and also what changes I could make.

Local Newspaper Poster Idea
I began my research into local newspaper poster ideas by looking at previous local newspaper posters which students had done, and also researching others. The most important fact I noticed is to attract and appeal to your target audience. As my target audience is young people, I felt I needed to come up with something more modern and alternative than standard newspaper posters which would appeal to a younger audience. I came up with the idea of taking pictures of someone with there fist pointing towards the camera in focus, with the person blurred in the background and editing it on photoshop to look as if they have "HA6" tattoed on there knuckles, which is a popular and common area young people get tatooed these days.
I began by going out and taking pictures of a friend of mine. I originally planned to use my digital SLR camera which would take much more clearer images, but when coming to taking them the battery unforunately ran out. Instead I used a camera phone to create a draft poster of what I would like it to be like.
Here are the images I have taken to create a draft poster for my local newspaper:

Creating A Newspaper Publisher Logo
Here are some newspaper publisher logo ideas which I made on Photoshop. From my research of local newspapers I have noticed newspaper publishing logos seem to be quite simple.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
I feel the best newspaper logo would be number 1 as it seems the most bold and striking, I don't think the other logos will suit the look of the newspaper as much.
My final decision for a newspaper publishing logo which I will place in the top left hand corner of my newspaper.

Ideas for Radio Advertisement
I have written a script between a boy who has just moved to Eastcote and a woman on the other line from free advice agency. The boy feels lost as he doesn't know anything going on in the area.

Researching Radio Advertisements
- I have began researching radio advertisements. I have mainly looked at what the key points are which will attract listeners to be engaged in the advertisement and what would appeal to my target audience.
Here are the points as to what I feel my target audience would be attracted to in my newspaper:
- The local sports In the area
- Whats new? clubs, restaurants, clothing shops, changes being made to places.
- Incidents in the local area
- Celebrities spotted in the area and coming to town.
I feel these are subjects that would appeal to my target audience as these are things which would apply to them. Younger people in the area would be interested in new or changes in clubs and other entertainment in the area. From my questionnaire I did, asking my target audience what would interest them in a local newspaper, many said sports, fashion and celebrities. Which I have included in my local newspaper.

I found this video on Youtube which shows ways which will make a radio advert effective, a point which I thought was important was telling the audience what they want to hear at (2:20), and words standing out at, such as "Free" at (1:40). Another point I thought was important at (5:35) was how people think radio is not used in todays age, yet it is and is a very important way to promote.
- Here is another video I found on Youtube on how to make a radio advertisement in 6 minutes.
I found the way this advert was constructed into a conversation very effective. After speaking with my teacher and both finding this an effective way to make a radio advertisement, we came up with the idea to create an advertisement as a conversation between a therapist and teenager on how a teenager feels lost and left out on what is going on in there local area and the therapist asks the teenager whether they have heard of the local Harrow and Eastcote newspaper, which goes from there to the therapist telling the teenager about the newspaper.
- Here is a link I found which I think gives some very useful and helpful points on how to make an effective radio add:
I think the most important point is making your advertisement interesting and hard to ignore. Making something unique and different about it from other advertisements which will stand out. I also find another point extremely important which is keeping the message and clear, which can be difficult if your trying to make your advertisement unique at the same time.
- Here is another link I found giving more points on how to make an effective radio advertisement.
I think the most important point I have found from this link is to pinpoint your audience. As my newspaper is aimed towards a younger audience I need to create my advertisement which will stand out to teenagers and make them interested in the advertisement. Another point I find important is know what your buying, the advertisement needs to be 60 seconds long but you need to give some sort of information what is included in the newspaper to help listeners understand whether this would appeal to them.
I feel the most important points I have picked up from my research is :
- Making the radio advertisement that is as effective as possible
- An advertisement which is unique yet keeping it clear and to the point
- Telling the target audience what they want to hear
- Making it simple and giving facts about the product that will make them want to buy it
Process Of My Front Page And Second Page Of My Local Newspaper
As you can see from my previous post on the development of my local newspaper, I have made many changes. I feel I have finished most things yet not completely happy yet for this to be the final product. For my front cover, I am yet to create a newspaper publishing logo on the left hand side, I am also not completely sure on the font of the newspaper, I feel this font may be to plain, I think I need to experiment more with unconventional newspaper fonts and find something more eye catching.
For my second page, I am satisfied with the layout, images and articles. I am yet to edit the advertisement at the bottom of the page, it is slightly pixilated as it needed to be stretched to fit in the box therefore I need to edit this on Photoshop. I am also unsure on the font and font colours for the "contents" heading "www.ha6.co.uk" at the top of the page. I feel this doesn't seem to go well with the page.
